SubtitleDesk is built so that we never see your subtitle files. This page explains, in plain language, what happens on your device, what little we do measure, and how advertising may use cookies.
Your files never leave your device
Every tool on this site — the converters, shift, sync, merge, fix and the editor — runs as JavaScript inside your browser. When you drop a file onto a tool, it is read and processed by your own computer. Nothing is uploaded, there is no server-side processing, and we have no database. You can confirm this with your browser's network inspector: no request carries your file.
The editor can save an unfinished draft so you can continue later. That draft is stored in your browser's local storage on your device only. It is never transmitted to us, and you can delete it with the editor's Close button or by clearing your browser's site data.
Anonymous usage analytics
We use Vercel Analytics to understand which tools are used and whether they work. It records anonymous, aggregated events such as page views, the tool that was used, how many files and cues were processed, and the codes of parser warnings (for example "encoding-fallback" or "unparsed-line"). It never receives file names, subtitle text, timestamps or any other file content.
Vercel Analytics does not use cookies and does not track you across websites. It derives an anonymous visitor hash from your request that is discarded after 24 hours. See Vercel's own privacy documentation for details.
We may also use Google Analytics 4 to measure the same anonymous events and page views. Google Analytics is loaded in consent mode: until you accept analytics cookies in the consent banner it runs without cookies and without storing identifiers, and IP addresses are anonymised. If you accept, Google may set cookies (such as _ga) to recognise returning visitors; you can withdraw that choice through the banner at any time, or block Google Analytics with the official browser add-on.
Advertising and cookies
To keep the tools free, the site may show advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads and measure their performance, which can include personalised advertising based on your browsing. Where the law requires it, these cookies are only set after you give consent through the consent banner, and you can withdraw or change that choice at any time through the same banner.
You can also opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking advertising cookies does not affect any of the subtitle tools.
Bug reports
If you use “Report a problem”, we receive the message you write, the name of the tool you were using, your browser version (the user-agent string) and the parser warning codes shown on the page, such as “encoding-fallback”. An email address is included only if you type one, and we use it solely to reply.
The content of your subtitle file is never included unless you explicitly tick “Attach my subtitle file to help debugging” in the report form. Attached files are limited to 1 MB. Reports are stored in our own content system and are not sent to any third party.
What we do not collect
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect names, email addresses or payment details. We do not sell data. Because files are never uploaded, there is nothing for us to retain, share or lose.
Changes to this policy
If we add a feature that changes how data is handled, this page is updated first and the date above changes. Material changes will be announced on the homepage.
